Here in the Northeast, February marks the dog days of winter and if you’re living ‘round here, you know these cold, gray days make for the perfect stay-at-home, snuggle up on the couch and watch movies weather. So grab the blanket, a hot (preferably spiked) drink and the remote – here’s your quick guide to what’s new on EPIX this month.
Showgirls!! (NC-17, 1995)
Elizabeth Berkley, a.k.a. Jessie Spanno from Saved By The Bell, makes her big screen debut in Showgirls, the story of Nomi Malone’s crazy struggle to make it as a top dancer in Vegas. With some of the cheesiest writing and lots and lots of nudity, Showgirls is one of those movies that’s so terrible, you HAVE to see it.
Beverly Hills Cop II & III, Airplane II, Pink Panther 2…and More Sequels
EPIX is home to lots of sequels this February. Some of the best are the comedies we’ve got on the list.
Beverly Hills Cop II & Beverly Hills Cop III (R, 1987 and R, 1994)
It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Eddie Murphy as Detroit cop Axel Foley, but did you know Sylvester Stallone was actually cast in the role originally? He dropped out only two weeks before shooting began, and we can’t say we’re sorry to hear it. Murphy is the man in this series and provides plenty of laughs along the way.
Airplane II: The Sequel (R, 1982)
Years have passed and Ted Striker is no longer the pilot terrified of flying (watch Airplane! for that whole story). This time, he’s out to save the first passenger space shuttle from colliding with the Sun.
The Pink Panther 2 (PG, 2009)
Catch up on some quality time around the TV with family-friendly sequel The Pink Panther 2. Starring Steve Martin as the famous French Inspector Jacques Clouseau, this is a physical comedy that’s so absurd you just can’t NOT laugh. The kids in particular will love this one.
More Sequels To Watch:
Into The Blue 2: The Reef (TV-MA, 2009)
Amityville II: The Possession (R, 1982)
Barbershop 2: Back in Business (PG-13, 2004)
Jeepers Creepers 2 (R, 2003)
Robocop 2 and Robocop 3 (R, 1990 and PG-13, 1993)
Road To The NHL Stadium Series
EPIX cameras are back on the road, but this time we’re capturing the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings’ journey to the NHL Stadium Series. Episode 1 premieres Tuesday, February 3rd and airs Tuesdays throughout the month with the finale on February 23rd. If you’re a hockey fan, you can’t miss this series.
